Four Common Objections to Using a Professional Home Watch Company Debunked

Updated: Nov 21

Home Watch Meeting In-Home

Many homeowners use a professional home watch company and think it’s a no-brainer, while others approach the idea with some healthy skepticism and reasonable objections. Such as:

  • I don’t like the idea of someone coming inside my home when I’m not there.

  • My neighbor (friend or family member) offered to check-in on my home when I’m away.

  • I’m not convinced it is worthwhile to have someone walk through my home weekly or bi-weekly while I’m away.

  • It is an unnecessary extra expense.

While these objections above are reasonable, they are not the best mindset when it comes to your home.

Having a stranger come into your home while you’re away may be unsettling, but there are precautions you can take to minimize those worries.

  • Lock up any cash, jewelry, or other assets of concern.

  • Install cameras.

  • Ensure your professional home watcher is insured and bonded.

  • Ask for (and check) references.

Neighbors, friends, and family are great, but leaving your home for an extended absence can be a burden and a liability. While you may have people you can count on to look over your home with the best intentions, often they are not aware of what to do at your home to help prevent issues from occurring nor are dedicated and trained to look for and identify irregularities. When homeowners call us after using a personal contact, we often hear these reasons:

  • They did not come through our home often enough.

  • They did not perform the tasks we would like, but felt it was too much to ask for more.

  • There were some issues at our home upon our return.

If you live in a new home, a smart home, and/or a home that you feel is less likely to have issues arise, it may seem unnecessary to have a professional home watch service. However, no matter which applies to you, issues can occur at any time and if little issues sit for weeks or months at a time, they may become very costly problems. Instead of repeating information shared previously, visit the blog, What is Home Watch?, to see a list of some of the issues we’ve come across in the last few years.

Home watch services are an extra expense as is any service, but it’s a small cost for peace of mind. Paying a small fee (comparatively) for the time you are away to potentially prevent small issues from becoming major expenses, is well worth it. Ask any of our customers!

As an insured, bonded, locally owned company in Hamilton County, Indiana, we treat our customers’ homes as if they are our own. Call us today at 317.537.7225 to schedule your peace of mind.
